IIT KHARAGPUR RESEARCH PROVES EXISTENCE OF MICRO PLASTIC POLLUTION IN HOT LIQUID CONSUMED FROM DISPOSABLE PAPER OR PLASTIC CUPS AND GLASS. 

Disposable paper and plastic cup,glass,

are popular choices of containers for consuming beverages .But a recent research by IIT KHARAGPUR has confirmed the existence of contaminated particles of hot liquid serve in paper

Plastic cups and glasses due to the degradation of micro plastics and other hazardous components form the lining material of the cup.

Paper cup are usually lined by the thin layer of HYDROPHOBIC FILM.Which is made of moslly plastic (POLYETHYLENE) and sometimes co-polymers to hold the liquid in paper or plastic cups and glasses. 

Within 5 minutes this micro plastic layer degrades as a reaction to hot water ,says the first of its kinds study conducted in India by dr sidha goel associate professor at the department of civil engineering and research scholars Ved prakash Ranjan and Abuja Joseph studying environmental engineering and management. 

As professor sudha goel puts it, 

According to our study 25000 micron-sized (10-1000 micro plastic particles are released in to 100 ml hot liquid (85-90 oC temperature residing in paper or plastic cups and glasses .

Thus an average person drinking three cup of tea and coffee daily in paper or plastic cups and glasses daily .Would be ingesting 75000 tiny micro- plastics particles .

Which are invisible to the human eyes .

These micro plastics can act as carriers for contaminated like IONS,Toxic heavy metals such as palladium ,chromium and cadmium and organic compounds that similarly hydrophobic in nature, MEANS( THE LARGE INTESTINE DOES NOT ALLOWS THE WATER TO CLEAN IT FROM INSIDE) THUS allowing them to conventially cross over to the animal kingdom .when ingesting the health implications could be serious .

Poundering on whether the traditional earthen products can be a more suitable replacement for such disposable items.
