The pulp of Tamarind pods is an ancient Ayurvedic ingredient used to polish and detoxify the skin because of its high content of Vitamin C. It gently polishes the skin to give a smooth golden sheen.



Tamarind is a rich source of magnesium. It also contains more calcium than many plant foods. The combination of these two minerals, plus weight-bearing exercise, could help prevent osteoporosis and bone fractures. The body requires vitamin D to use calcium.

Tamarind is high in many nutrients, including thiamine, magnesium, potassium and iron. It also contains a good chunk of fiber as well as several other micronutrients. In addition to the above nutrients, tamarind pulp also contains some copper, vitamin K, vitamin B6 and folate.


Tamarind (Imli) is useful for nasal blockage and cold due to its Ushna (hot) potency and Kapha balancing properties. It helps to remove sputum from the respiratory tract and gives relief in case of nasal blockage and cold.


Tamarind is packed with Vitamin A and Vitamin C, integral in producing energy. It also has iron and calcium that helps in immunity-boosting and maintaining strong bones.


Twenty-one samples of sous and 44 samples of tamarind were collected from the local market in Amman, Jordan. Water is the major component of the drinks. Sous drink is characterized by having an alkaline pH (range, 6.6 to 9.9; mean, 8.6), whereas tamarind drink has an acidic pH (range, 1.8 to 3.7; mean, 2.8).


Being rich in polyphenols and flavonoids, tamarind has been shown to decrease LDL cholesterol and increase HDL cholesterol, thereby lowering the risk of atherosclerosis. The dried pulp was also found to have anti-hypertensive effects, reducing diastolic blood pressure.


Tamarind has played an important role in traditional medicine. In beverage form, it was commonly used to treat diarrhea, constipation, fever, and malaria. The bark and leaves were also used to promote wound healing (1). Modern researchers are now studying this plant for potential medicinal uses.

Tamarind has a decent amount of fiber. It may help promote satiety and reduce food intake, which may trigger overall weight loss, including belly fat loss.


Tamarind contains antibacterial, antiviral and antifungal properties that can help protect your skin from infections. It also protects you from intestinal and urinary tract infections.

The iron contained in tamarind improves the healthy functioning of red blood cells in the blood.


It is high in minerals and vitamin C, tamarind is used to promote fertility in both males and females. The anti-oxidant qualities of tamarind have a sexual benefit by boosting female fecundity.


Salt and Tamarind should be kept together and never separately because they control the vibration of the house.
