HIBISCUS FLOWERS

        HIBISCUS FLOWERS
                  .............

Hibiscus, (genus Hibiscus), genus of numerous species of herbs, shrubs, and trees in the mallow family (Malvaceae) that are native to warm temperate and tropical regions. Several are cultivated as ornamentals for their showy flowers, and a number are useful as fibre plants.

In Sanskrit, hibiscus is called "Japapushpa." In Hindi, it is called "Gudhal."

The name Hibiscus came from the Greek word “hibiskos” that meant “marshmallow.”

Hibiscus is high in antioxidants and offers many potential benefits. In particular, it may help promote weight loss, reduce the growth of bacteria and cancer cells, and support the health of the heart and liver. Hibiscus is available as an extract or, more often, a tea.

Hibiscus is used for treating loss of appetite, colds, heart and nerve diseases, upper respiratory tract pain and swelling (inflammation), fluid retention, stomach irritation, and disorders of circulation; for dissolving phlegm; as a gentle laxative; and as a diuretic to increase urine output.

Hibiscus flower has both male and female reproductive parts in them.
Unisexual flowers are those which have either the stamen or pistil but never both. Hibiscus has both male and female reproductive organs as stamen and pistil in the same flower. Hence hibiscus is not unisexual, it is bisexual.
