Petha is a very famous North Indian sweet dish from the city of Taj Mahal. It is prepared using very few ingredients like ash gourd (winter melon), sugar, lemon juice and alum powder.

In India, the crop is widely grown in UP and Delhi for preparation of 'Agra petha' and in southern states for use as vegetable.

Ash gourds

Ash gourds, commonly referred to as white pumpkins, are a vegetable with a pale-green exterior and white, heavily seeded, savoury inside that is used to make petha.

Winter melon, also known as petha in India, is a storehouse of wonderful health benefits. It can help support heart health, improve immunity and keep you full for long.

Ash gourd, also known as safed petha, is one such vegetable. Since ancient times, ash gourd has been prized for its medicinal properties. Apart from being loaded with essential nutrients, ash gourd also improves digestion and has a cooling effect on the body.

Petha removes intestinal problems as it contains a filament. So, it is very beneficial for pile patient and stops to get blood from piles. People who get swelling in the intestine as well as do not get appetite must drink two cups of Petha juice in the morning.

As white petha or its juice is less in calories and alkaline in nature,

Dry pethas have rough dry texture on the outside but are soft, pulpy on the inside. Angoori pethas are juicy, pulpy and soaked in the sweet syrup, which kind of melts in your mouth with each bite.

I myself have tried Angoori Kesar Petha of a company named Rafael.  It is very tasty and very beautiful, its saffron color looks very nice.  After eating one waar, there is a desire to eat again and again.

Really Rafael Brand is the pride of Agra.
