Migraine headache

         ............

A headache of varying intensity, often accompanied by nausea and sensitivity to light and sound.

Migraine headaches are sometimes preceded by warning symptoms. Triggers include hormonal changes, certain food and drink, stress and exercise.

Migraine headaches can cause throbbing in one particular area that can vary in intensity. Nausea and sensitivity to light and sound are also common symptoms.

      Cause of migraine

              ............

Genetics play a big role in migraine. This means that it is often inherited in families. It is estimated that up to 60% of the reason people get migraine is because of their genes.

As many as 80% of people who get migraines list stress as a common trigger. These people also have reported high stress levels. The stress-headache connection may be worse in women than men. If you have chronic migraine -- headaches on at least 15 days of the month -- you're likely to have high stress levels.

Migraines are likely caused by a nerve that inflames the dura, spreading pain and changing local blood flow. There may also be genetic causes of migraine. There are multiple triggers that may lead to a migraine attack.

Generally, a lack of sleep is known to trigger headaches and migraines in some people.

Stress and anxiety are common migraine triggers. Other triggers include anger, poor sleep, hunger/skipping meals, exposure to smoke, bright lights, certain smells, fatigue, caffeine withdrawal. A migraine headache is a neurological disorder that is different from other types of headache disorders.

Pain usually on one side of your head, but often on both sides. Pain that throbs or pulses. Sensitivity to light, sound, and sometimes smell and touch. Nausea and vomiting.

How to reduce migraine?

           .............

Warm showers or baths may have a similar effect. Sip a caffeinated drink. In small amounts, caffeine alone can relieve migraine pain in the early stages.

Whether it's a run-of-the-mill tension headache or a migraine, caffeine can help. That's why it's an ingredient in a lot of popular pain relievers. It can make them as much as 40% more effective. Sometimes you can stop the pain in its tracks just by having caffeine alone.

So, drink warm lemon water along with honey to tackle that migraine pain. Ginger tea is used since ages to treat a migraine and nausea. According to a study published in the Journal of Phytotherapy, researchers observed that ginger was effective in treating migraines and cluster headaches.

Why do migraines start at night?

           ...........

Nighttime headaches can arise due to a range of disorders and health issues. In particular, this issue can be a feature of tension, migraine, and cluster headaches and is the primary symptom of hypnic headache. 1 While the exact causes aren't known, they're linked to the activity of the hypothalamus.

The pain is caused by the activation of nerve fibers within the wall of brain blood vessels traveling inside the meninges (three layers of membranes protecting the brain and spinal cord). Untreated attacks last from four to 72 hours. Other common symptoms include: Increased sensitivity to light, noise, and odors.
